Last weekend Luke and I were invited to go snorkeling in Key Largo! I’m normally quite timid when it comes to swimming in the ocean but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and I’m so glad I did because we had so much fun! We woke up super early Saturday morning and drove 2.5 hours to catch the morning boat. The boat took us 30 minutes out into the ocean to a place called Grecian Rocks. After a quick 5 minute lesson on snorkeling we were off! The water was beautiful and we saw lots of pretty fish. I expected to be scared but I wasn’t at all because I could see everything around me. Snorkeling took all the fear out of the ocean for me (however, I’m sure a shark would have put that fear right back in me!) A highlight for Luke was seeing some sort of crab or lobster hidden under a rock! Some other snorkelers on the boat saw eels, nurse sharks and lobster. I was hoping to get some better pictures under water but I guess I shouldn’t expect much from a $14 disposable camera! If you haven’t been snorkeling, I highly recommend it…totally worth the trip!
Our trip to DC began with Ann taking us for a tour around where she lives. She lives in the Navy Yards which used to be a not-so-nice part of town but has really been built up over the past few years. She lives within walking distance of the Nationals Stadium and the Capitol. In fact, you can see the capitol from the big windows in her condo. Unfortunately, as you can see from the picture below, there is some construction going on that is eventually going to totally block her view 😦
Sunday morning we headed to St. Peters on the Hill where we met Kerstin, a friend of ours from Franciscan. She is now a counselor in McLean, VA and had just moved to the area a few days prior to our visit! Following Mass we had brunch at a cute French restaurant in a neat part of town. Then we headed over to Eastern Market where we browsed through the different booths. My favorite was the Polish pottery and jewelry. Ann and I each bought a pair of earrings for my brother’s wedding and Kerstin found these really awesome decorative panels to use as a headboard in her bedroom.Sunday evening Ann and I went out to take photos at sunset and we came back to find Luke enjoying himself in the hot tub 🙂 So we continued our shoot with Luke as our model…I think he had fun!
