Luke and I just got back from a little vacation visiting my parents. It was so nice to have a break from work and to experience a change in the season. It was a tad cold for this Florida gal but I absolutely loved seeing all the beautiful fall colors! Wish we could have stayed longer 😦 Our first day there we went to Westview Orchards to pick up a yummy pie! Luke picked out a Very Berry pie and I’m told it was delicious! I’ll be posting some more pics from our trip tomorrow 🙂
This is a little late but Happy Halloween! This is me and my siblings when we were little 🙂 I’ve been waiting for trick-or-treaters all night but I’ve only had 1 so far! Just isn’t like it used to be… Check out last year’s Halloween pic here 🙂
I’m not a fan of banana bread (or anything with banana) but Luke looooves all things banana so I baked him up some banana bread yesterday evening. I thought if I topped it with cream cheese frosting I might like it too 🙂 I could still taste the banana…but the frosting was yummy!I recommend this simple frosting recipe. However, I added a Tablespoon of milk and left out the vanilla this time (and halved the recipe). We used Pamela’s Ultimate Pancake and Baking Mix (gluten free) to make the bread. There is a recipe for it right on the bag 🙂 Luke told me I outdid myself! ha
I was recently inspired by another photographer to take pics of my husband and since Luke is such a good sport, he played along 🙂 As you can see from the pics, they don’t call this the golden hour for nothin’. There was some pretty crazy sunflare on the first three images despite my lens hood. I’ll have to learn how to avoid that better in the future.
Exhibit A: my handsome hubby!
Yesterday evening I received a text from a friend saying there was a bear in their back yard and that he was headed towards town! Immediately following, Luke and I both received recorded phone calls from Florida Fish and Wild Life alerting us of the black bear and telling us to make sure our trash was indoors and our garages were shut. This isn’t the first black bear to make an appearance in our town…it’s actually becoming quite common! You can read about last years black bear here. I guess it’s just that time of year! In any case, Luke and I decided to go scout him out! We figured he couldn’t have gone far so we drove by our friends house and there he was! He roamed into someone’s driveway and took a look at their trash before sitting down next to a fruit tree. There he knocked fruit down with his paws to eat…it was actually kind of cute 🙂 As we drove over to find the bear we found it quite comical that basically everyone’s garage door was either open or their trash was out. There was even a group of people barbecuing in their driveway…that’s probably where he was headed! Eventually the police came and scared him away. Just a little small town entertainment 🙂
Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit with a childhood friend that I haven’t seen since I was 4 or 5 years old! Our families were very close way back when we lived in Beaumont, Texas! Thanks to the lovely internet (instagram to be exact) I noticed Carolyn posted a pic of her daughter all dressed up, helping her pack for vacation. I asked where she was headed and soon found out that she was vacationing only about an hour or so away from where we live! We exchanged phone numbers and met for dinner, dessert and chatting last night. It was so wonderful to catch up and hear about how everyone in her family is doing. Can’t believe everyone is all grown up! I hope we can get together again sometime. Carolyn lives in Nashville with her husband and two young daughers. We just had some friends move there so maybe that’s an excuse to visit Nashville! Check out the pictures below for a walk down memory lane 🙂
In the picture on the left we were playing dress up…notice Carolyn to the right of me… 😉 The picture on the right is at Carolyn’s birthday party. She is on the far left, her sister Christin is on the bike and I’m the one pouting in the yellow polka dot shirt.Above are some more pictures of us girls. The last picture is when Carolyn’s little brother John was born…fun memories! 🙂 And here we are now!
I highly recommend all of these recipes!
Last weekend Luke and I were invited to go snorkeling in Key Largo! I’m normally quite timid when it comes to swimming in the ocean but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and I’m so glad I did because we had so much fun! We woke up super early Saturday morning and drove 2.5 hours to catch the morning boat. The boat took us 30 minutes out into the ocean to a place called Grecian Rocks. After a quick 5 minute lesson on snorkeling we were off! The water was beautiful and we saw lots of pretty fish. I expected to be scared but I wasn’t at all because I could see everything around me. Snorkeling took all the fear out of the ocean for me (however, I’m sure a shark would have put that fear right back in me!) A highlight for Luke was seeing some sort of crab or lobster hidden under a rock! Some other snorkelers on the boat saw eels, nurse sharks and lobster. I was hoping to get some better pictures under water but I guess I shouldn’t expect much from a $14 disposable camera! If you haven’t been snorkeling, I highly recommend it…totally worth the trip!
I’m finally getting around to posting about our trip to Charlottesville where we spent a few days visiting with family before my brother’s wedding June 1. Below are some photos from our outing to a few vineyards outside of Charlottesville. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. We also visited Devil’s Backbone Brewery one day for lunch. My brother’s company does all of the design work for them, so that was neat to see. Below are some pics of our family 🙂
